Prepairing For Your Photoshoot

RELAX AND HAVE FUN.

You should discuss the goals of the shoot and your expectations with the photographer before the shoot. I have learned firsthand that the more preparation that goes into the shoot the better the outcome!

DO NOT be worried about how your images look duruing the shoot, that is the photographers job. Don't be afraid to take it over the top. Try differnt expression and ideas, as many as you can think of. Some will work, some won't but you will be pleased with how many different looks you get when you not worried about how it looks.

If you are not using a make-up artist bring your make-up supplies for touch-ups. By taking care of your contouring and base items before the shoot it helps speed matters along. The photographer will tell you if he needs you to come make-up ready.

Fingernails should be clean and not too long. Polish should be a light color or the make-up artist may request no polish so they can airbrush them to match the outfit/look.

Wax or shave your legs and armpits 3 days prior to a shoot. If you are modeling swimwear or lingerie, be sure you hit the bikini line. This is also the time to be sure your facial hair is under control. Don't have your facial hair waxed in the three days prior to your shoot in order to allow for irritation to disappear.

BE Yourself! Let your personality show and capture images that showcase who you are. If shooting for a client think like and actor and really put yourself into the characters shoes.

Get plenty of sleep the night before. Sleep at least eight hours a night for the three days prior to your shoot. Stay away from alcohol and other influential substances! It will show on your face. Eat a healthy light meal prior to your shoot and Drink plenty of water. While modeling you will need the energry. I have personally seen models almost pass out from lack of not eating breakfast so they can look slimmer. You will look the same but not have the energry for the shoot.

Do not wear jeans, elastic waist bands, pantyhose, bras, ankle socks or tight underwear prior to your shoot as they will leave red marks across your stomach, legs and thighs. Try on all your clothes ahead of time. Make sure they fit well, are cleaned, pressed and have no missing buttons. Bring colors that look good on you. The photographer may instruct you on specific items and or colors to bring to the shoot. Black & white are great. Avoid lavish designs, floral patterns and stripes. Stay away from white clothing if being photographed indoors and stick with the bright colors if the shoot is outdoors. Clothing that shows texture such as weaves, knits, etc. often enhance a three dimensional look to photos.

Save pictures that you like from magazines or the web: the pose, mood, expression, angle, attitude, energy. Practice facial expressions in front of the mirror learn how your face feels with a perfect smile - no gums, eyes open - not squinting. Practice your poses in front of a mirror. Find out what works best for you.
